2017-2018 Faculty Learning Community

UTSA Teaching and Learning services invites faculty applicants for the inaugural UTSA Faculty Learning Community. This cohort-based instructional development program is a community of practitioners who share the goals of building community, engaging in evidenced based teaching, and exploring best-practices and innovations to share with our campus teaching community. The topic for 2017-2018 is Inclusive Excellence: Teaching Our Diverse Student Body.


Up to 15 faculty members will be selected. All UTSA faculty are eligible to apply including tenured, tenure-track, and non-tenure-track faculty from all disciplines.

How Often:

Six face-to-face meetings per year with an ongoing Blackboard discussion site for sharing ideas and resources.


Tentative dates:
Fall 2017: September 12, October 10, November 14
Spring 2018: February 13, March 13, April 10
2nd Tuesday of each month from 9-11 a.m. in the Faculty Center or other designated space
Breakfast will be served.

Travel Grant:

Each participant will receive a $500 grant to fund travel or supplies.

Faculty Requirements:

Faculty must commit to attending the six face-to-face meetings and participating in online discussions throughout the year.

How to Apply:

Faculty interested in participating should complete the FLC Interest Form by June 1, 2017.

FLC Goals:

  • 1. Discuss issues/concerns/kudos regarding diversity and inclusion at UTSA.
  • 2. Explore the best practices found at other universities.
  • 3. Create and/or compile resources to share with UTSA faculty on diversity and inclusion.
  • 4. Create a faculty development plan on best practices for UTSA faculty to use in the classroom.
  • 5. Develop a roll-out plan to engage the larger teaching and learning community at UTSA and beyond.
