Biography

Jesse T. Zapata, Ph.D., has been at UTSA since 1976. He has held a number of administrative positions at the university in addition to being a full professor with tenure in the Department of Counseling. In 1994, he was appointed the first Associate Provost and then Vice Provost for the UTSA Downtown Campus. While serving as Vice Provost for the Downtown Campus, he also held the position as the first dean of the College of Public Policy from 2000-2007. In 2014, he assumed responsibility for the Office of Academic and Faculty Support and now serves the university in this capacity full time.

Zapata earned his doctorate in counseling psychology from Arizona State University, his master’s degree in counseling from Texas Tech University and his bachelor’s degree in government and history from the University of Texas at Austin. His research has focused primarily on the dynamics within Mexican American families and substance use among Mexican American youth.

Biography Andrea Trease is the Assistant to the Senior Vice Provost for Academic and Faculty Support. She brings more than 20 years of administrative experience and a decade of experience teaching as an adjunct faculty member. Andrea earned a BA in Geography from UTSA in 2005, and a MAGeo (Master of Applied Geography) from Texas State University in San Marcos in 2008. Since beginning her career at UTSA in 2006, Andrea has held a number of increasingly responsible administrative positions and has served as an ICE Mentor, Ally, Freshman Orientation Host, Floor Safety Liaison, and Faculty Advisor to registered student organizations. In her current capacity, she assists the Senior Vice Provost in providing top quality academic and faculty support to the UTSA community.
