Veteran Services Advisory Committee

Veteran Services Advisory Committee - (VSAC)
Co-Chairs; Lisa Firmin, Associate Provost Veteran and Military Affairs
Audrey Magnuson, Director Career Services

The Veteran Services Advisory Committee (VSAC) began development in 2009 as an informal group of staff and faculty, known among themselves as the Veteran Task Force. Task force members were concerned with the myriad issues faced by student veterans upon their return to college. The task force gained formal status during the summer and fall of 2011 under the direction of then Vice President of Student Affairs, Dr. Gage Paine.  After the selection of co-chairs, Dr. Joe DeCristoforo, Assistant Vice President - University Registrar and Jeff Gatlin, Staff Clinician in Counseling Services, the task force was re-named and installed as a presidential standing committee.

Mission and Purpose

The mission of the VSAC is to assist veterans and our military affiliated community in making a seamless transition to our academic community. The VSAC recognizes the unique experiences that student veterans bring to our campus environment and leverages these resources to help steer our student veterans toward degree, certificate, or program completion by providing a military-friendly and helpful campus environment.
The purpose of the VSAC is to provide a structure where key student veteran issues can be assessed openly and thoroughly, resulting in creative potential solutions as recommended to UTSA leadership.
