Course Description
The Adobe Discovery Institute will consist of asynchronous video sessions. Each session includes four videos you can rewatch until you're comfortable with the software. Peer Technology Tutors and graduate assistants will be available to assist you if needed.
Students will be introduced to basic applications included in Adobe Creative Cloud, a tool that is free for all UTSA students. Students will be able to complete short projects that will give them the opportunity to produce artifacts that they can use to improve their digital literacy skills and prepare them for their life after they finish their UTSA journey.

- Graphic Design Fundamentals:
- Identify the tools in Photoshop for editing photos.
- Create a photo collage by editing photos in Photoshop.
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of layers.
- Vector Graphics Fundamentals:
- Select the appropriate tools in Illustrator for illustrated objects.
- Design a vector graphic of a simple object using Adobe Illustrator.
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of Adobe Illustrator.
- Print Design Fundamentals:
- Identify the various options for typography and graphic layout.
- Design multipage layouts using Adobe InDesign.
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of Adobe InDesign.
- Video Editing and Content Creation:
- Discover the impact of video media on self-promotion.
- Create content for YouTube.
- Demonstrate the ability to edit in Premiere Rush.
- Critical Thinking and Application:
- Apply graphic design principles and skills across various software and tools.
- Analyze design choices and their effectiveness in real-world projects.
- Create compelling visual and multimedia content for diverse purposes.

Course Calendar
Course runs asynchronously February 3rd – April 17th
Time Commitment and Course Completion Requirements
The time commitment for this course is estimated to be 10-15 hours, but largely depends on previous skills.
Upon successfully completing all four projects, students are awarded an incentive pack.
The sessions will cover:
- Photoshop: create a photo collage that can be used online.
- Illustrator: create a vector Illustration of a simple object.
- InDesign: create a multipage document in Adobe InDesign.
- Premiere Rush: create a two-minute video about your UTSA journey.
*If your portfolio is incomplete, ignores concepts covered during the course, includes the work created in the past, or content created by others, you will not qualify for the incentive. If you have a question about the quality of the project and want to know if it meets the guidelines of the course, it is your responsibility to contact the instructor.
