First-Year Collection
Welcome to the First-Year Collection. During your first year at UTSA, you can earn one or all of the First-Year Collection - a set of competency-based digital badges that document career development skills and campus life involvement - which can be added to your portfolio, LinkedIn, and social media. Earning badges is not required, but highly recommended to help you find your place at UTSA through activities and events that build strong social and academic foundations.
What Badges are Available and How do Students Earn Them?
Below is a snapshot of the First-Year Collection and a link to the earning requirements for each, like participation in an activity or event and writing/recording a brief reflection.
First Year: Inquiry

Explore and reflect on a Bold Question from your AIS or WRC course and get ready to publish your work in the UTSA Runner Research Press Archive.
First Year: Bold Conversations
Earning Requirements
Meet with friends and peers to chat and discuss one shared book or movie. Discussions are completely student-led and happen in Zoom.
First Year: Well-being
Earning Requirements
Take care of yourself! Participate in the First Year Wellness Event and at least one other well-being activity at UTSA.
First Year: Community
Earning Requirements
Be a part of it! Participate in UTSA sponsored campus activities or a UTSA Student Organization that promotes belonging and civic engagement.

(Re)discover the library! It is an exciting social place. Come and take part in a series of activities and events that have nothing to do with classwork and you will not be asked to be quiet.

Are you creative, have great ideas, have great plans? Do you like to build things? Come help us reinvent the First-Year Collection for next year. Work in small groups with peers and mentors from UTSA and the San Antonio community to create, design and market the look of the First-Year Collection and future First Year events!
