Shared Experiences Forums
A purpose of the Academy is to “create a collective of faculty advocates for teaching excellence who can serve as resources to their colleagues.” One means to accomplish this is through frequent forums on teaching excellence. Rather than always bringing in outside consultants, the Academy believes it should first consult its own experts, the UTSA Faculty, and have them share their experiences. We hope you can attend the upcoming forums. Missed a forum? Check out the past forum video archive below.
The Value of the Instructor in Online Education
Wednesday, March 31, 2021
12:30 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. Q&A
If all your lectures are now on online, why are you needed? Couldn’t someone else simply update your lectures every two years? If a publisher is providing your students with an online textbook, case studies, videos, learning activities, and even grading all your assessments, is there really a need for YOU?
Post COVID, many courses will remain online or hybrid. What is your value as an instructor in an online academic environment? Learn from the shared experiences of other faculty who face the same concerns.

Below is a video archive of past forums. If the videos are helpful to you, please share the link with other faculty you think could benefit from the teaching tips shared and consider attending the next forum.
Note: After the panelists conclude their remarks, questions are taken from those in attendance on-site and those viewing online. Sometimes an audience member begins talking before a microphone is handed to them resulting in poor audio quality.
