UTSA is rapidly advancing its efforts around AI, computing, cyber and data science, as the demand for expertise and multidisciplinary approaches in these and other emerging fields is growing exponentially. The College of AI, Cyber and Computing will meet these evolving needs, aligning programs that previously were distributed across four colleges.

The College of AI, Cyber and Computing will provide benefits to San Antonio and Texas:

  • The new college will solidify UTSA and San Antonio’s status as the largest information security hub outside of Washington, D.C.
  • As products of a Tier One, UTSA graduates are feeding the demand for technically advanced professionals in emerging fields.
  • A robust UTSA presence downtown will greatly enhance the city’s reach with local and national organizations, accelerating San Antonio’s influence as a leader in producing a tech-centric workforce.

The college will be headquartered at the UTSA Downtown Campus, primarily in San Pedro I and San Pedro II, which will enable the College to leverage opportunities and partnerships in downtown San Antonio.

We are preparing throughout the 2024–2025 academic year – including conducting a nationwide search for a founding dean – so that the new college is operational beginning in Fall 2025. At that time, the college administrative structure will have received approval from the University of Texas System and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, leadership will be in place, and students will be officially enrolled.

Following the official launch at the start of the Fall 2025 semester, the new dean will lead college faculty, staff and students in a strategic planning exercise to advance a clear vision for the college.

The College of AI, Cyber and Computing is the outcome of a comprehensive, yearlong initiative – Shaping the Future of Artificial Intelligence, Cyber, Computing and Data Science at UTSA. The structure of the new college is based on data gathering and recommendations from an advisory task force as well as deep and broad consultation with internal and external stakeholders over the past year.

UTSA has used a similar approach to conceptualize and launch other new colleges, including the College for Health, Community and Policy in 2020 and the Klesse College of Engineering and Integrated Design in 2021.

For Staff & Faculty

A complete list of degree programs can be found on the College of AI, Cyber and Computing website and also is available to download.

Students currently enrolled in one of the undergraduate or graduate degree programs in the college will automatically be enrolled in the College of AI, Cyber and Computing in Fall 2025. However, students should not expect to see any changes to their programs or classes for the 2025–2026 academic year.

UTSA is not removing any majors or minors. In fact, by creating this new college, UTSA will be able to more easily add majors in response to evolving trends and market demand.

Over time, it is possible that requirements for some of the degree programs in the new college will change in closer alignment with national trends and industry needs. In such instances, any students currently enrolled in a program with changing degree requirements will be able to elect whether to follow the existing program of study or switch to the new one. If this happens, ample notice will be given, and Advising will be able to work with students on choosing the best path forward.

Most students should not expect to see any changes to their programs or classes for the 2025–2026 academic year.

Yes! The College of AI, Cyber and Computing will be operational beginning in Fall 2025 and will be represented at UTSA Commencement in December 2025. All students earning degrees associated with the new college will participate in the commencement ceremony for the College of AI, Cyber and Computing.

This spring, Academic Affairs is working in coordination with deans, department chairs, and faculty to determine faculty and staff assignments for the College of AI, Cyber and Computing. Affected faculty and staff will be regularly updated on our progress.

San Pedro II is scheduled for completion in January 2026. For those faculty and staff relocating to either San Pedro I or San Pedro II, move-in would likely occur in summer 2026.

Currently, UTSA has several parking options available around the Downtown Campus and San Pedro I, and VIA has routes that will take UTSA students and employees between campuses. Additionally,  The Little Runner provides convenient service to transport students, faculty and staff between San Pedro I and nearby Downtown Campus parking lots, as well as other downtown locations. This service is free for UTSA students, faculty and staff with VIA U-Pass.

Additional parking and transit needs are being analyzed as a part of our planning process for College of AI, Cyber and Computing.

Similar to parking and transit, needs related to housing, services, and safety are being analyzed as a part of our planning process.
