Academic Strategic Communications

As part of the search for the founding dean, UTSA faculty, staff and students were invited to a listening session with members of the search advisory committee and search firm partners at SP&A Executive Search.

The three sessions, held virtually Feb. 11–14, offered an opportunity for campus stakeholders to share their perspectives on the new college’s priorities and the qualities and experience needed in its founding dean. Participants were asked to share thoughts on the following questions:

  • Based on your experience at UTSA, what do you see as the short-term (immediate) and long-term (three to five years) challenges and opportunities facing the dean?
  • Given the opportunities and challenges you have described, what professional experiences and qualifications should the successful candidate possess? What personal attributes should the new dean have to be aligned with UTSA’s mission?
  • What major initiatives are currently in the implementation phase and require the attention and support of the new dean?
  • What are the key positive attributes and attractive features of UTSA and the surrounding community, and how might those be highlighted to attract the best candidates?

Those who were unable to attend a session were invited to share their input via survey.
