Custom Sessions

You can also request personal and professional development sessions for your group! Sessions are typically scheduled in 2-hour increments, but we can create a custom experience based on your needs and purpose. Available Topics include Clifton Strengths, Communication in Teams, Conflict Resolution, Emotional Intelligence, Goal Setting, and Intro to Design Your Life.

Embracing individual strengths is instrumental in creating a successful work environment. For this session, participants identify their “Top 5” CliftonStrengths and learn how to effectively apply them in current settings, as well as future opportunities. First, participants complete the CliftonStrengths assessment on their own. Then they engage in a series of group activities to discuss their natural work tendencies, how these tendencies affect their work relationships, and how to use their strengths in future work and personal environments.

NACE Competencies: Career & Self-Development, Communication  

Communication can either make or break a team. During this session, participants work through a series of unique challenges as a group that put their verbal and nonverbal communication to the test. After each challenge, participants reflect on their interaction as a group and explore how communication is tied to collaboration, problem solving, creative thinking, and more!    

Skills gained: Problem solving, collaboration, active listening, decision-making, conflict management, critical thinking, teamwork, leadership, interpersonal communication   

NACE Competencies: Critical Thinking, Communication, Teamwork  

When most people are in conflict, they are not in the best frame of mind to think of ways to make a "win-win" situation. During this session, participants engage in a series of activities and exercises to explore their approach to conflict. Then they utilize active listening, emotional intelligence, open communication, and self-reflection to practice resolving everyday work and personal conflicts.

NACE Competencies : Critical Thinking, Communication  

Emotional Intelligence is an inherent skill needed to effectively communicate with colleagues, peers, supervisors, etc. During this session, participants practice recognizing emotions, extending empathy, and using emotional intelligence to navigate core relations of life (i.e., school, work, interpersonal, outer circle). They utilize the emotions wheel to name and claim emotions, practice managing emotions with stress relieving techniques, and participate in conflict role plays to practice using emotional intelligence with peers.

NACE Competencies: Communication, Critical Thinking   

Goals provide direction and focus for future success. During this session, participants establish and accomplish a short-term goal utilizing the SMART goals method. They create a specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time bound goal related to school, work, etc. Upon conclusion, participants successfully complete one short term goal and identify one long term goal. They also establish an accountability partner to maintain contact with for both goals.

NACE Competencies: Career and Self-development  

Career and life decisions are complex. Utilizing design thinking helps provide direction and opens up potential pathways! Through this 2-part session, participants utilize design thinking to map their college and career journey. They practice innovative problem solving, explore what gives them energy vs drains them, challenge their own pre-existing assumptions, radically collaborate with peers, and prototype ideas for tackling this complex problem.

The Najim Center is launching UTSA’s first Life Design Lab this year!

The Life Design Lab is a collaborative space for students to use design thinking to solve personal and professional challenges such as, “How might I use my major in a career?” or How might I figure out what I want to do with my life?” or “How might I balance school, my career, and a social life?” No challenge is too big or small! We invite you to come as you are and explore how “Designing Your Life” can help you navigate this season of life. 


The Life Design Lab will be open for collaborative or individual use, life design coaching, and workshops. We are located in the Graduate Research Studies Building on the 2nd floor inside the Najim Collaborative Space.
