Two UTSA faculty receive $3,000 STAR grants

Patrick Gallagher and Judy Haschenburger have received Strategies for Teaching, Assessment & Retention (STAR) Grants, a program created in partnership between the Academy of Distinguished Teaching Scholars (ADTS) and the academic support division of Academic Innovation.

The $3,000 individual grants will help Gallagher and Haschenburger develop and implement inclusive pedagogy, digital literacy, experiential learning, evidence-based research and practices, and technology to enhance accessibility and student success.

Gallagher, a faculty member in the Department of Anthropology, UTSA College of Liberal and Fine Arts, submitted a proposal on the Collaborative Ethnographic Research Lab.

Haschenburger, a faculty member in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, UTSA College of Sciences, submitted a proposal on Early Intervention for Experiential Learning through an Exposure Research Experience.

Their final report on the results, released in January 2023, will describe how they implemented teaching practices to promote student success while enhancing student engagement and equitable learning.

The STAR Awards is one of many faculty development programs offered by Academic Innovation. The STAR awards will be again open for applications in the fall semester.
