As a Hispanic Serving Institution whose hometown is at the crossroads of a continent, UTSA is proud to document, preserve and celebrate the vibrant history of San Antonio and South Texas’ Hispanic heritage. The UTSA Libraries and Institute of Texan Cultures (ITC) provide numerous opportunities to reflect on the region’s heritage while strengthening the community through the celebration and connection of people, places and food

UTSA's Mapping the Movimiento connects the community to those who helped shape our city's history

“Mapping the Movimiento” is a self-guided tour of San Antonio’s historic West Side neighborhood that draws from the Special Collections housed at the UTSA Libraries and ITC. Visitors can explore some of the locations where significant contributions to Latino progress were made – places that helped galvanize a generation of Chicano activists who fought for Mexican American advancement.

At the ITC and Libraries, preservation of and access to South Texas histories and cultures are a central part of UTSA’s mission as a Hispanic thriving institution. Take part in UTSA’s Ven a Comer month-long celebration and walk the Movimiento all year.
