Dear Colleagues,
Faculty are at the heart of all we do at UTSA and play integral roles in the success of our students, the advancement of knowledge through research and discovery, and the fulfillment of the university’s mission. Last year, Academic Affairs convened an ad hoc committee to review faculty compensation practices at UTSA’s peer and aspirational institutions with a focus on promotion and tenure (P&T), comprehensive periodic evaluation (CPE), and fixed-term track (FTT) faculty promotion. The committee included deans, department chairs and representatives from the Faculty Senate and information was gathered from multiple faculty colleagues and the offices of academic affairs or similar units of 25 other institutions. The committee summarized the prevailing trends among peer institutions in a report presented to Academic Affairs.
As a result of the committee’s work and in close collaboration with the deans and Business Affairs, I am excited to announce compensation practices for faculty, including the following:
- Tenured/tenure-track (T/TT) faculty who are successfully reviewed and approved for promotion will receive a 10% salary increase upon the effective date of their promotion or $5,000 (for assistant to associate professor) / $7,000 (for associate to full professor), whichever is greater.
- A $3,000 increase in salary for tenured faculty who receive a “meets expectations” or higher rating on their CPE.
- For FTT faculty, minimum promotion increases have been established.
