UTSA launches reclassification process for Carnegie Community Engagement Classification

UTSA has officially begun the process to reapply for the prestigious Carnegie Community Engagement Classification, a designation that highlights the university’s deep connections with the community. UTSA is one of only 368 universities and 53 Hispanic Serving Institutions in the U.S. that are recognized for their commitment to community engagement.

First awarded to UTSA in 2015, this recognition underscores the importance of mutually beneficial community partnerships that enhance education, research and public service and have a positive impact on the economy and communities the institution serves.

A core team within Academic Affairs, in collaboration with stakeholders across the university, is spearheading the reclassification effort. They are working diligently to collect and document UTSA’s wide-ranging community engagement activities that took place during the 2023-2024 academic year (Sept. 1, 2023, to Aug. 31, 2024).

All data for the reclassification process is due by October 31, 2024, and will be considered in the final application, set for submission in the spring.
