UTSA has named department chairs in the new College of AI, Cyber and Computing—key appointments that will help shape the college’s vision as it prepares to launch in Fall 2025.

UTSA Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Heather Shipley has appointed chairs for the four academic departments that will anchor the new College of AI, Cyber and Computing:

  • Department of Computer Engineering: Ram Krishnan, Ph.D.
  • Department of Computer Science: Fred Martin, Ph.D.
  • Department of Information Systems and Cybersecurity: Charles Liu, Ph.D.
  • Department of Statistics and Data Science: Min Wang, Ph.D.

These leaders will help shape the academic vision and guide the college’s launch. A national search is currently underway to recruit the college’s founding dean.

Launching in Fall 2025, the UTSA College of AI, Cyber and Computing will integrate disciplines in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, computing, and data science across four specialized departments, fostering collaboration and innovation. With an anticipated enrollment of over 5,000 students, the college will offer cutting-edge academic programs designed to meet workforce demands, strengthening UTSA’s leadership in emerging technologies. Located in downtown San Antonio, the college is positioned as a cornerstone of regional economic growth and technological advancement.
