Call for Proposals: Joint UTSA/UT Health SA Clustered & Connected Faculty Hiring Program

UTSA and UT Health San Antonio are jointly seeking proposals from current faculty for transdisciplinary cluster hires that build on existing expertise and explore transformative new directions. Proposals must include multiple units and involve at least one college from UTSA and one school from UT Health San Antonio. Proposals are due June 6, 2025.

Editorial note: This message was sent via email to all UTSA faculty from Heather Shipley, Jennifer Sharpe Potter and Francisco G. Cigarroa. A similar email was sent to all UT Health San Antonio faculty.

Dear Faculty,

As UTSA and UT Health San Antonio continue progressing toward integration to create a premier global university, the combining of our collective academic, research and clinical strengths will bring immense value to our community. This new world class university will further strengthen our research enterprise through the recruitment of top faculty in strategic areas.

In support of this growth, UTSA and UT Health San Antonio are jointly launching a new round of the Clustered and Connected Hiring Program (CCP).

CCP is a strategic hiring mechanism that brings together clusters of faculty scholars to strengthen existing expertise in key areas, enhancing our competitiveness and national prominence. The program is designed to recruit leading researchers who will drive innovation, tackle critical societal challenges, and advance the university’s capacity to meet UT System and state priorities as outlined by the Texas Legislature.

The joint UTSA/UTHSA CCP emphasizes collaboration between the merging institutions; proposals must include multiple units and involve at least one college from UTSA and one school from UT Health San Antonio.

We invite you and your colleagues to submit proposals for transdisciplinary cluster hires that build on existing expertise and explore transformative new directions.

Proposals are highly encouraged from these cross-cutting priority areas (though submissions in other research areas are welcome):

  • Artificial Intelligence and Bioinformatics
  • Biomedical Sciences
  • Tissue Regeneration
  • Neuroscience
  • Cancer
  • Aging
  • Human Optimization and Performance
Proposals are due June 6, 2025. Full details are available on the UTSA and UT Health SA Joint Clustered & Connected Hiring Program webpage.

Please note that this new joint CCP process is separate from the call for proposals launched in early April. The original CCP initiative remains active, with proposals still due by May 16.

Thank you for taking part in shaping the university’s research future and we look forward to your ideas. For questions, please contact provost@utsa.edu.
